Windows Smart Login to Identity as a Service

Whether you choose to user your Smart Card Identity to log in with Auto Connect or a more manual login with your PIN or biometric, this feature allows you to log in to your Windows computer without the typical user name and password combination.

How it works (Windows)

First you need to Configure Smart Login authentication.

Once you have Smart Login configured, it works as follows:

As you approach the paired Windows computer, a Bluetooth connection is established automatically.

You can log in one of the following ways:

If biometric authentication is configured (as an alternative to a PIN) and biometric authentication is enabled in the app, you respond to a Face ID or Fingerprint ID challenge.

OR

You enter your smart credential PIN at the prompt.

Note: If you end the Bluetooth connection manually, auto-connection does not occur until you restart the computer or the app.

Authorize a browser for Smart Login with Entrust Identity as a Service

Use your Smart Card Identity to log in to your computer. See Windows log in without a password.

Open a Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge browser and go to your Identity Provider's Entrust Identity as a Service website. (You only have to do this once for each kind of browser on a specific computer.)

Note: On Windows, only Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge support this feature.

You receive a notification on your mobile device asking if you want to authorize the browser. Tap Yes within 15 seconds.

Enter your Smart Card Identity PIN or authenticate with a biometricbiometric.

If you are logging in to a Windows computer and you have the app presents a choice of biometrics to use (for example, fingerprint or face recognition).

Tap the icon for the biometric you want to use, and then complete the biometric challenge. If you have used biometric authentication previously, the last biometric that you chose for login is already selected.

For instructions to enable biometrics, see the section Usage basics > Enable biometrics in the Entrust Identity Mobile Help.

Note: To access the online help, open the Entrust Identity app, click Settings and scroll to Online Help.

If the authentication is successful, you are logged in to your Identity Provider's Entrust Identity as a Service website and the browser you used to log in appears in the Authenticated Browsers list on the details page for that Smart Card Identity.

The next time you log in to your computer with the same Smart Card Identity and open the authorized browser, you can access Entrust Identity as a Service and any of the applications it protects without having to authenticate again.

You will be prompted to re-authenticate Entrust Identity as a Service in the following cases:

When you log in using same computer but a different browser (one that you have not authorized yet).

When you log in from a different computer.

When a browser that you had authorized previously has been upgraded.
